research before I maybe buy another caddy

Post by fenwick458 »

Currently drive a T5 but it's costing quite a bit to maintain at the minute and it's a bit big for what i need so thinking about downsizing to a caddy Maxi DSG. £10k budget so looking at 2014-15 ish.

so if any of you can help out with these questions it's be great thanks

where can i find out what the different spec levels mean, Startline, Highline and Trendline?

BMT, i have figured out must mean blue motion technology, some of them i am looking at have this what does it mean? can they be remapped? what sort of MPG do they get?

does the 1.6 have a DPF and does it become a problem if i only do short trips a lot, cos i do that

are there any models with problems to look out for? someone told me not to get one before 2013 because the injectors are crap but not been able to find anything out on the web about this

how much is tax on the 1.6 CR?

The difference in specs you will find if you can download an old catalogue although it was possible to add lots of parts above the trim spec.

MPG is very subjective, on standard steel wheels and motorway runs maybe 50mpg plus, 20" alloys around town will return high 30's

The tax is the same as all 2 ton commercial vehicles, £250 for 12 months.

ive got a 2.0ltr 102 blue motion thats been remapped to the 180 ish mark (claimed) its well poky now and will still do 50mpg if i drive it on the cruise control at 55-60mph. it'll drink the juice if i drive like an idiot

i came over to caddy after loads of T5s and a T6, and have not regretted it at all, so much nicer to drive if you can sacrifice the load space

the spec levels, you really wanna be in the trend as a minimum. thats where you get the aircon, i think highline adds heated screen, colour coded bits etc

I also went over to a Caddy from T5’s as I always loved the wedge shape! When circumstances allowed and the need to have a larger van diminished I bought my first Caddy around 3 years ago. It was a 2014 1.6 trendline barn door van that was nicely speced but no air con which I so regretted! I loved it so much that I bought another one shortly after which had a host of nice extras including air con and a rare tailgate model. I absolutely love the van as much as I love to be a member of this fine forum and have never looked back! My latest mod to the van was an R32 engine conversion which is nice! Really hope you source a nice Caddy and be sure to show us the photos when you do.

when were there significant model changes, so i know what catalogue to find?
shame about the tax i was looking at some caddys that were £120 tax but realise now they must have been the life models!

didn't realise you could even get a 2.0 102. what year is that in? all ive seen for sale in the ones i'm looking at have 1.6 engines.
what does the BMT add, is there any difference in the engine or is it just an add on options pack that adds low rolling resistance tyres, cruise control and start stop?
are there any problems with the DPF when you remap it?

Have a look at the Kombi model as well, I went for a maxi and tax was £145 a year, check the V5 as mine is classed as a MPV. The extra seats pop in and out easily but are a bit heavy to lug around and of course you then need somewhere to store them.

I moved from a T4 caravelle, thought I'd miss the extra space but hasn't been a problem at all, with the extra seats out there is loads of space.

This article explains Bluemotion well: https://www.carwow.co.uk/blog/volkswage ... -explained

Mine's a Bluemotion 1.6 Caddy. On cheap (ie. NOT the fancy original) tyres I get 50-55mpg at 68/70mph motorway runs. If I drop to 60mph I occasionally get 60mpg

Cheers
