Fuel under the dreaded 1.6tdi injector
Just noticed some fuel under injector 1&2 on my 1.6tdi. Is the likely to be the return hose or is it the sign of something more sinister to come?

Could be anything. Is it actually fuel and not washer fluid or rain water?

Probably the leak off tube, hopefully that's all it is. Check the bolts haven't snapped as this was one of the original failure modes. The stupidly designed m6 stretch bolt holding down two injectors on a high compression diesel is madness. If you spray soapy water with fairy in it, around the injector and run the engine, you would see bubbles if the cylinder compression was reaching past the injector seals.

Yeah not sure who thought one bolt for 2 high pressure injectors was a good idea. Thanks for the help I'll try the soapy bubbles tonight

The odds of it leaking on the combustion side and appearing as a diesel puddle are low, it's more likely the top end. Not impossible but for liquid to leak you'd have a lot more combustion leaking
Most likely a leak off fitting cracked if you've been in there doing something else and knocked it, the o ring on top of the injector, or the retaining clip.
Best drying the area, checking if its wet again after a few days. If so dry it all again and push blue roll under any suspect areas and leave it running for 30 mins. This will give you a definite source of the issue
